I mentioned yesterday about my transition to the Dark Side, well since the last time I swam at Newcastle (sometime last September or thereabouts) they’ve had a coaching reshuffle. Sadly no more Evil Mutant Swim Coach 8.0 (demoted to one of the kid’s squads) but more interestingly for the first time in my swimming career (I know that might be rather overstating my efforts in the pool over the last 40 odd years) I now have a female swim coach. Any initial thoughts that this new coach might be kind, compassionate and empathic were immediately banished by a 400 medley warm-up……Medley Warm-Up! for goodness sake, but she suggested we swim it as 100 IM’s and I body swerved the last 50 (too long in the changing room) and drilled the fly and was then subjected to a mere 10 x 200’s @ 3:40.
Credit where credit is due Evil Mutant Swim Coachess did have a good eye for the slackers and kicked Rosie “baby master”, into the next lane when she spotted that she was cruising, on my feet well within herself. Aerian and myself as the sole survivors in lane 5 worked our way through this little session for 4200 metres in just over 90 minutes. Solid!
