Binge’s Metre o Meter

Well hello there, it’s been a while, and I’m betting that thanks to the pandemic most of you have had your own first hand experience of Binge Swimming and maybe, just maybe you are contemplating signing up to the school of inconsistent mediocracy exemplified by Binge and chronicled on these pages.. well welcome to my world.

I’m hoping that the February Fitness Challenge which started up again this year (after a 2020 pandemic hiatus) will provide me with the inspiration to ease myself back into the swim of things.

As you can see from my metre o meter I’ve had a rather unbingelike start to 2022 covering a very healthy 77,650 metres in January and looking to maintain that through February. Acually I can’t say January’s total contained much quality swimming, there was an awful lot of garbage yardage and I started off using rest intervals because I couldn’t rely on securing enough (or actually any!) rest if I tried to go off a repeat time.

Over the month I was making incremental improvements and eventually managed a set of 100’s on 2 mins coming in at sub 1:40’s. You can imagine my horror when I rock up at Stanley this evening, full of enthusiasm for the start of the February Fitness Challenge. I glanced up at the white board on the pool side and almost turned and walked out as a shudder of dread and intrepidation ran through me. The main set began with 4 x 100 on 1:40…….1.40! Does evil mutant swim coach 1.0 have any empathy for the effect of a set like this on poor Binge.
