The Binge is Back

The Road to Kazan Starts Here (hopefully).

There’s more than a touch of Deja Vu about this post, as I think I’ve been here before. Well actually I know I’ve been here before, (see 2014 comeback)  As you can see from this post on my old blog there’s just something about May bank holiday weekend that drives me back into the water. It’s probably brought on by the dismal weather coupled with the terrifying thought that at three months out from the World Championships and less than 6 weeks out from the British Championships I really need to start swimming properly.

Overwhelmed and Out of My Depth
Overwhelmed and Out of My Depth

I had made some half hearted attempts at swimming during April covering a paltry 9000 metres over 4 sessions. (Nothing worth blagging about never mind blogging about).

But you know don’t you when you’ve reached that point where the paralysis you feel from being overwhelmed by the enormity of what you have to do, finally succumbs to “Just do it”.

Well that Nike mantra point arrived on Sunday when I turned up at the Consett Masters for a session under the watchful eye of EMSC 1.0. Although we covered 3.1km, I got off lightly, because unusually for a Sunday; there wasn’t a single 100 metre repeat in the session and secondly none of the regulars were there to give me a hard time about my two month absence (quite a short dry spell by Binge standards).

Now the session may look a bit incomprehensible, particularly the main set, this is because I couldn’t make the turn around time and was left to rely on that old faithful (5 secs rest) before pushing off again. I did eventually catch up to my lane mates but only by truncating the rest in the 33’s, so it was pretty much a continuous swim as a starter. Well 1 down……..
