Consett Masters session was cancelled this afternoon so it was off to Newcastle Masters (with a bit of encouragement from Peter French) to be faced with one of His Majesty’s sessions, yet again I was successful in choosing a session which contained a test set….aargh.

My last visit to Newcastle earlier this year had resulted in me being Billy no mates as I was demoted to lane 6. Today I was elevated to the dizzy heights of lane 5 and nestled in with a MAD crew, (Martin, Andy & Duncan).
Now this is really interesting (well if you have the same obsessive swimming anorak and narcisssitic traits as me) because HM’s test set is always the same and I had endured the same set last June read about it here.
But comparing the results I was surprised to notice that there wasn’t much to choose between my repeat times last year and this afternoon’s set. Admittedly the last time I was swimming in a 33m pool, and even though I was quite a bit off the 80 I swam at the end I felt quite encouraged.
2 weeks into this comeback I’m swimming not far off the level I was swimming about 8 weeks in last year.
Must be a fluke.
