Back in the Swim of things

IMG_0826How did your Christmas Holidays go? In an unusual flurry of swimming activity I managed to hit the pool 4 times after Christmas.

Regular followers of they blog will know this is rather a unique event in Bingeswimming lore and I was motivated by the thought that it was going to hurt whenever I started and the longer I left it the harder it would get so I might as well get on with it.

test set 3In addition I was acutely aware that time is ticking and I need to have some semblance of fitness before May, not to mention I’ve a stone or three I need to shed.

So I made use of the unlimited swim facility with my (barely used) gym membership and made a concerted effort to try and fit some swimming in between all of the partying and shopping which appears to dominate this time of year.

imagesIt was interesting swimming in the public laned sessions and although most of the time I had a lane to myself occasionally there were two or three of us in a lane.

The local swimming community is clearly a driven and close knit but rather disorganised group as I found myself at various times in company with Sparky, Clarky and Cloughy all ploughing their lonely furrow.

The company made the sessions quite sociable and a good opportunity to catch up on the gossip. I also learned that if you drop an iPhone out of your locker face first onto the changing room floor the result is a minor disaster…..broken-phone-shutterstock-510px

Anyway this little lot brought my 2015 total to a little over 278,000 metres or a mere 47.5% of my target for the year……complete fail but hey there’s always 2016…..
